INWOOD -- Jefferson couldn't score against Musselman.

Blake Hartman scored five touchdowns against Jefferson. And the Applemen had seven touchdowns in all, as they slammed the Cougars, 49-0, last Friday at Musselman High School, leaving Jefferson with an 0-3 record, with Spring Mills coming to Shenandoah Junction tonight for a 7 p.m. game. The Cardinals went to 2-1 overall with a 28-27 overtime win over winless Hampshire in Romney last week.

With Hartman scoring three of his five touchdowns, the Applemen went ahead, 21-0, by halftime.

All of those scores came on runs of 17, three and six yards.

Hartman's third-quarter scores were on passes from Caleb Horner. Hartman had an 80-yard pass-run as Musselman continued to distance itself from the struggling Cougars. And then came an 81-yard pass-run scored even before the third quarter could end.

Still in the third quarter, Kagen Teets gave the Applemen a sixth score with his run.

Shamel McWright's 55-yard run extended the burgeoning Musselman lead all the way to 49-0 as the third quarter showed the Applemen scoring four touchdowns in that 12-minute segment alone.

The Cougars have now scored only three touchdowns in their last 10 quarters of football, with a seven-point production in a 41-7 loss to Sherando on Sept. 6 and then the blanking administered by Musselman. Two of those scores came in the second half of a 62-42 loss at home to Millbrook.
